5 Free and Helpful Resources for Informed COVID-19 Travel

Sharing is caring!

Disclaimer: Traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic is a touchy subject. We want to be respectful of everyone’s position on the topic, and are by no means trying to convince anyone to travel right now. This article may contain tips and information related to traveling during the pandemic – this is a travel blog after all.

If you are thinking about traveling it is important that you consider the risks to yourself and to others around you.

With information on traveling and the virus updating constantly it can be difficult to stay up-to-date on all the details. There are so many additional considerations to make when planning travel during a pandemic. Below are 5 useful travel resources that can help you stay informed.

This dashboard provides a 7-day window of various data points about the virus in the United States. What I find particularly helpful about this dashboard is that if you click on a state it will lead you to that state’s Department of Health Website to learn more about their individual COVID-19 restrictions.

  • Resource 2 – World Health Organization

Similar to the CDC COVID-19 tracker for the US, WHO has a global tracker which provides case related information.

WHO also has a travel-specific travel advice page with Q&As, updates and public health consideration as it relates to travel during the pandemic.

While most countries are not allowing US International travelers, a select few have begun to – with restrictions. The US Department of State has a resource that links to each country’s US Embassy on restrictions for travelling due to COVID-19.

  • Resource 4 – Sabre Airlines & Hotels Policy Links –

One of my biggest pieces of advice if you are planning to travel during this time is to understand airline and hotel policies regarding cancellations and their current COVID-19 protocols. Read some other tips here (link other COVID article).

Sabre has developed 2 compilations of links to both airline and hotel/lodging providers current COVID-19 policies and guidelines. This can and should help inform what companies you consider booking your trip through.

Similar to the WHO dashboard, this 3rd party data aggregator provides case number specifics in each country & individual state. Different from WHO, they provide more details on that specific places restrictions for boards, travel, gatherings, and testing sites. This is a really great snapshot of the main details I am looking for when planning travel during this time.

If you’re going to travel during these uncertain times, travel safe and travel informed!
